BIO

Jeff Bowen is a multi-talented performer who has made a name for himself in the world of theater, film, and television. Born on August 30, 1971, in Baltimore, Maryland, Jeff grew up with a passion for the arts. He attended college at Stetson University in Florida, where he studied theater and music.

After college, Jeff moved to New York City to pursue a career in the arts. He worked odd jobs to make ends meet while auditioning for various productions. In 1999, Jeff met Hunter Bell, and the two began collaborating on a musical called "Title of Show." The show was a hit and premiered at the New York Musical Theatre Festival in 2004.
"Title of Show" was a meta-musical about two struggling writers trying to create a musical to submit to the New York Musical Theatre Festival. The show was a critical and commercial success, and it was eventually picked up for a Broadway run in 2008. Jeff and Hunter starred in the show, and Jeff also served as the show's composer and lyricist.
After the success of "Title of Show," Jeff continued to work in the theater world. He wrote the music and lyrics for the off-Broadway musical "Now. Here. This." with Hunter Bell and the cast of "Title of Show." The show premiered in 2012 at the Vineyard Theatre.
In addition to his work in theater, Jeff has also made appearances in film and television. He had a small role in the 2008 film "The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning" and appeared in the TV series "The Big C" in 2012.
Jeff has also worked in the music industry. He wrote the music and lyrics for the song "A Way Back to Then," which was featured in "Title of Show" and has since become a popular audition song for musical theater performers. He has also written music for various other projects, including the off-Broadway musical "Now. Here. This."
Most recently, Jeff has been working on a new musical called "Other World." The show is a collaboration with Ann McNamee and is described as a "sci-fi adventure musical." The show had a workshop production in 2018 and is currently in development.

Review: A STRANGE LOOP at Soulpepper
by Ilana Lucas - May 16, 2025

Michael R. Jackson’s A STRANGE LOOP is a striking text and meta-text, calculatedly raw and messy, archly vulnerable, and sacredly profane.

Review: [TITLE OF SHOW], Southwark Playhouse
by Cindy Marcolina - Nov 19, 2024

Director Christopher D. Clegg assembles Jacob Fowler (Hunter), Abbie Budden (Heidi), Mary Moore (Susan), and Thomas Oxley (Jeff) as the quartet, while Tom Chippendale is their accompanying pianist Larry. New casts will never have that je-ne-sais-quoi of the artists playing themselves, but, if the chemistry is there (and here it is indeed), the material is a boisterous enough journey through music and stressful deadlines bolstered up by meaningful friendships. Mind you, the piece is reasonably sized but, here, it regrettably comes off as a filler production to tide the venue over.

Review: [TITLE OF SHOW] at Kranzberg Black Box
by James Lindhorst - Aug 19, 2024

First and foremost, I go to the theatre to be entertained. A show doesn’t have to be complex, have an agenda, or try to teach the audience a moral to be enjoyable. It’s perfectly acceptable, and usually preferential, to simply be entertained. Prism Theater Company’s [title of show] is an amusing diversion. It’s quirky, silly, funny musical entertainment, and I liked it so much more than I thought I would.

Chris Cooper And Cast Present 'Sublime' Version of [title of show] at MTSU
by Jeffrey Ellis - Apr 3, 2024

Cooper’s clear and focused direction of [title of show] ensures that the action that transpires over the course of 90-plus minutes holds your attention, reminds you of people you know and delivers a pretty spot-on depiction of what real life is all about. With the able assistance of musical director Angela Tipps (the only non-student involved in the production, except for the professors who serve as mentors of the student-led creative team and production crew) and choreographer Paige Lovell (who provides the quartet of actors some fancy footwork that enlivens the proceedings), Cooper and his ideally cast quartet of actors, in this critic’s estimation, deliver the goods and then some.
